Everyone has scruples --- I think of scruples as moral values. It's just that everyone has a different definition of what is right and what is the wrong thing to do. Ethics, scruples, and moral values can be used interchangeably. However, there are certain scruples/ethics/ morals that the majority of humankind agree upon as right or wrong, i.e. killing, adultlery, rape, lying, etc are accepted in all cultures to be wrong. I could probably think of more if I had more time, but suffice it to say that a person's scruples are their moral compass and leads them to the way they should go.

Definitely.
In my book, I like to call my scruples ethics, or principles. What others call morals I define as those "rules" which others try to enforce on us. Ethics and principles are chosen by the individual. I believe they are the strongest ideals kept by people.
Morals "wear off" when the "authority" is out of view -the weaker of the choices.
For example, adultery. When someone is taught that adultery is wrong, it starts out as a moral. Someone else is attempting to impress his or her rules onto another person. When that authority is not present, an adult who has not converted the moral into a principle, will easily commit adultery. An adult who has converted the rule into a principle, usually through understanding how painful adultery is to the partner who has been cheated on, will not act on the temptation.

Yes. Scruples are what keep us from going against our own personal nature. Scruples cannot always be set in stone. Sometimes situations require one to go against their scruples for the greater good.

The why is simple. If one cannot be true to oneself, then one cannot be true to anyone else.

The only way you can answer this question is yes... because even if you wanted to say no, the reasons behind that 'no' would in fact be 'Your Scruples'. (much love!)

Human suffering comes from the karma that results when we lie, steal, abuse, betray and deny. If we don't do these things, then others cannot do them back to us and suffering will cease. Have scruples, don't suffer!

That's like asking if sanity should be preferred over insanity. People who have no scruples have no idea they're insane and self-distructive.
