A single brick wall the size you describe would need about 1126 bricks with 5% wastage. So you would need double that for a 9" thick one. You would also need about 4 ton of sand and 1 ton of cement for a 4:1 mix. (X 2 also.)

6' high with 4" work is too high that's 8 courses of block work assuming you are using block(440x215x100mm) start the first 9" as a flatter both blocks laid on their backs that would give a more stable base for you and your pillars can be set out on top of that course,you will need an expansion joint halfway in the block work you will have 34 blocks in length so at that point have1 pillar either side of the expansion joint,1 pillar at either end of the wall and 1 pillar halfway between the expansion joint and the start of the wall so you'll have 6 altogether and have them 9" wide that's your 4" block then put another 4" block behind the point where you want your pillars and a block laid on flat to cover those would give you 9" from the front of the wall to the back of the pillar that should do the job for you ok.

if you use standard brick , about 2800. but your wall will be only 7 5/8 in. thick. this is the thickness of a double wall as you will want to have a few header courses to tie the two walls together...

how many bricks will I need to build a 100ft. wall 2ft high and 16 inches wide I came up with 1500 but I'm sure that's noy right

4x50=200 bricks ---1 brick is 2"th x 4"wid x 8"long
two bricks plus morter cement between give 9inch thick
400 total bricks needed?

If you use sinderblocks they are bigger and easyer to use,less money long run.
