I am 18 and I'll be undergoing a circumcision soon due to relative phimosis. How long should I expect the recovery time to be, is there going to be anything I should avoid doing, and did anyone regret getting circumcised?

Thanks

Did you try alternatives?

The easiest option would be to just stretch your foreskin by sliding it back as much as you can and washing it when you shower. That worked for me when I was younger. Personally I love the results.

There's also a cream that works in 95% of cases.

0.05% betamethasone

Recovery is 1 to 2 weeks. Try to avoid erections.

I assume that if you've decided to get a circumcision then you've been offered and have tried all other methods, and they have failed - including stretching exercises, creams, and even lesser surgery (see links 1, 2, 3).

I would say avoid circumcision, but it seems like you've decided. The recovery time should be 2-3 weeks, but the glans (penis head) will be sensitive for a month or more. Gradually it'll desensitize, but until then it'll be annoying or even painful. Make sure the wound is clean.

You should be aware there are many degrees of circumcision. If you don't want all of your foreskin removed, you can have only a bit of it removed; you'll end up with a shorter yet functional foreskin (see link 4). This is definitely something to think about, as it should remedy you of phimosis, but also gives you function of your remaining foreskin. Plus, circumcision will, over time, decrease the sensitivity of your penis a lot (see link 5).

Recovery time is 7 to 10 days when the stitches come out, but treat it gently for a few weeks longer till the scar gets full strength. You may need to relearn about masturbation - it's a little bit different. If in doubt, use lube.

Some men do regret getting circumcised, but if you have a phimosis that you haven't been able to sort out using cortisone creams and stretching, then you'll find it a lot more comfortable being circumcised.

Yahoo Answers' spell check corrects "phimosis" to "whimsies".

If you've ever had one, I don't think you'd find it all that funny!

Whoa! You don't need to be circumcised for phimosis. In most parts of the world this condition is very successfully treated without surgery. In the US doctors (often circumcised themselves) like to take the way that is easiest and most profitable FOR THEM. But it's not their ***** being permanently mutilated! The only real medical indications for circumcision are frostbite, cancer, or gangrene in the foreskin area. All three are extremely rare.

Try stretching the skin very gently with your fingers. It's usually easy to do in a warm bath, or else use some baby oil or lotion. Just hook your fingers on two sides of the skin and pull until it just starts to hurt - no more - hold a few seconds, relax, and then repeat. If you do this as often as you can for a couple of weeks, the skin will probably start to loosen. If not, do ask the doctor for some hormone cream to help.
Sometimes you just need to change the way you masturbate. See http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/phimosis/beauge2/

Take a look at the excellent information at http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/phimosis Good luck - and don't let anybody chop off your skin! Get a second - even a third - opinion before you let anyone near your penis with anything sharp!

Circumcision should only be contemplated as a last resort for severe medical conditions. I don't know what you mean by 'relative phimosis' but if all you've got is a non-retractable foreskin, with no pain or pathology, then that's not a medical condition, it's just a normal variation of the human penis, and you certainly don't need to have the most sensitive part of your body sliced off because of it. You will lose a lot of pleasurable sensation by having it done.

my friend told me his was painful for a few days, I grew mine back, I have seen a device that will correct it by stretching it too, looks easy. If you like having it but don't want to deal with phimosis then fix the phimosis, don't just have it cut off.

recovery time is about 2 weeks,do not get sexually excited as erections are extremely painful, the hospital should supply you with a spray to stop this, after a month you'll be back in full action.good luck
