Urinary tract infections are caused by bacteria the same as with other types of infections. Antibiotics are used to treat UTI's. Symptoms include burning and/or pain on urination, sometimes pain in the bladder or in the kidney area, fever, nausea, feeling weak, frequent urination. A person with a UTI should drink plenty of water. There's some belief that cranberry juice will get rid of a UTI - not so. Cranberry juice cannot kill bacteria, but the extra fluid from the juice helps your system flush out the invading germs. But antibiotics must be used.

Urinary tract infections are not that common in men although they can occur. He needs a urine analysis to see if there is an infection; if he has an infection, antibiotics will take care of it; consult your doctor. Also, advise him to drink more water, sometimes concentrated urine will have a foul smell.

I can't use anything with spermicide because it burns me and hurts so much. Since it is a chemical, it is very likely that it got in your urinary tract and irritated it and made you vunerable to an infection. Hope you feel better.
