Because when you start counting centuries the years up to 99 are in the 1st century. The years 100-199 are in the 2nd century. The years 200-299 are in the 3rd century and so on...until finally we are in the year 2007 which is in the 21st century. Make sense?

Each set of ten centuries is a millenium.

The 1st Century was covered by the years 1 - 99 (there was no Year 0).

The 2nd Century was covered by the years 100 - 199, and so forth.

The years 900 - 999 covered the 10th Century, and then 1000 - 1099 covered the 11th Century.

Ultimately, the years 1900 - 1999 covered the 20th Century, and hence 2000 - 2099 = the 21st Century.

So it goes back to the years 1 - 99 being termed the 1st Century. That's why 2007 is part of the 21st Century.

~The year 2000 is not in the 21st century, it was the last year of the 20th. It has nothing to do with being politically correct, it has to do with being able to count.

because the first century was under 100 so the 100's were considered the 2nd century and so on.

poison, the gregorian calender was started close to 3 thousand years ago. the chineese calender is more acurate than the western calender. our african ancestors had a calender for all of the ages, including the future. study about the pyramid of khufu and why it was really constructed. western eccentrics do not know anyrthing beyond the gregorian calender.
