Yes, I have bought some used furniture for a family whose house burned down and were friends of my daughter. They have 3 young boys.
I also provided them with diapers, some new clothes from WalMart plus took them to Good Will and let them pick out a certain dollar amount of clothes and items they might need.
I then took then to the grocery store and helped them stock their refrigerator.
I got the clothes when the house first burned down.
Helped with the groceries while they lived with friends.
Bought the used furniture when they found a place to stay.
I have been down and out after my first divorce while I was raising my son and daughter and living on waitress wages. I know how hard it is to live without help, sometimes. I was at a place in my life where I was able to assist them.

All of that. Also donated volunteer time at the homeless shelter. Just recently, someone ran out of grocery money, and I went and got a few bags of groceries and also brought some pre-cooked food so all they had to do was warm it up. I do what I can, but it'll never be enough. There are more people needing assistance than I'll ever be able to help.

Every single day work in a community service agency we offer food, shelter, heat, clothing the only thing we don't give is money we have learned it's best not to give cash. Am going to use this question to thank everyone who donates to local food pantries you have no idea how far even one bag of groceries goes to feed a family. So Thank You Thank You Thank You and to those who don't donate stop being selfish bastards and give!

I'm doing it now. I'm helping a friend pay some bills until she gets working again. And I feed her all the time because I am a better cook than her.
