is it against law if I said (or shouted) that someone's stupid?
is it against law if I write to a company saying that they are stupid without specifically mentioning anyone's name.

Interesting. In England, if you shout that a person is stupid, the police could, depending on the circumstances, consider this an action liable to cause a breach of the peace, which is a criminal offense. On the other hand, if a 3 rd person heard the remark it may lower his esteem of the person you called stupid. This would then be a slander with a possible civil action. If you wrote to a company and said an unnamed person was stupid there are no offenses, civil or criminal, however, if you write the letter in such a way that it can, in the eyes of a right thinking person, only mean one specific person, you may be open for a civil action for libel. Of course, if you can prove the person is stupid any action for defamation is lost. A true statement is not defamatory.

If they have a witness it could constitute slander. If you put it in the written word, it could be construed as liable.

nope, people do it all the time. you dont sound educated or get your point across but its not illegal. and im pretty sure you can flip off a cop and he cant legal do anything to you unless you threated him.
