My baby used to nurse 10min on each breast but recently he only wants to nurse approx. 10-15min max for both breasts.
He will refuse and arch his back after that refusing to drink. I don't know if he has enough to drink. He refuses bottle cos I've been breastfeeding him exclusively. Has any mothers experienced what I'm experiencing now? He'll be 6mths in 8 days time and he hasn't gained any weight for 3 weeks. pls help. thanks.

Relax, babies should never have timed feedings. Your baby has probably just become more efficient at the breast, and this is perfectly normal. I put some links below to help you determine whether or not your baby is getting enough milk. Length of time at the breast (even if it has changed) is NOT an adequate measure of the amount of milk your baby is getting.

Good for you for breastfeeding exclusively without bottles! This is the best way to regulate your supply and ensure a healthy breastfeeding relationship if it is possible (unfortunately, it isn't possible for everyone).

Also, if your baby is having problems gaining weight, this is sometimes a result of introducing solids too early. Babies should not get solids before six months! See links below.

My son will be six months on friday and i too breastfeed exclusively. Lately he seems hungry but will suck only for a few minutes or until the milk lets down, then get mad and throw his head back and fuss.I have to fight to get him to nurse for any longer. This is not happening everytime though and I realized that he is hungry but he is teething and the teeth coming through his gums are bothering him so much he can't settle down and nurse because of the pain. The best thing to do so far for us is to give him some oragel or anbesol on his gums a few minutes before i nurse him. This works for us. If you have anymore questions email me. Good Luck

that's no longer mandatory to grant your newborn water. maximum toddlers get adequate fluids from breast milk or infant formula. even whilst a mom's milk furnish is basically coming in during the 1st few days after transport, the infant is getting colostrum, that's adequate to maintain the infant properly hydrated. as a results of fact newborns' kidneys are immature, they have a difficult time concentrating their urine, and if given too lots undeniable water, might have problem excreting it. this could lead on directly to risky transformations interior the concentrations of sodium and potassium interior the bloodstream. For those motives, babies shouldn't get carry of extra fluids except their wellbeing practitioner recommends it.

Perhaps you should change what you are eating. Something in your diet might be affecting your milk and making him not want it. If he doesn't get better soon, take him to the doctor, might be a real issue. Especially if he starts losing weight.

my daughter is 9 months and i've been having the same thing happen. But when she gets hungry she eats. it's not like they'll starve themselves. unless he is really cranky and nothing will calm him....he very well could be teething?
