I write down lists.
Things to do.
Things to buy, etc.

Once everything is neat and Orderly. Just take some time during the day or night, to go over things, pick up, dust, wash off, laundry, etc.

Its harder if you let more than a day go by. So do it every day or every other day. Then you dont have to spend 4 hours or more on Sat. or Sun to get things done.

if you have tried but things can't seem to keep neat and orderly that way, then you need to try harder to maintain things neat and orderly.

there is a system of keeping things neat and orderly which you may have not found it yet.

it took me many years in my previous jobs to know the system.

but you may have a different version in keeping things neat and orderly.

sooner or later, you will realise it.

Neat and tidy isnt always the best thing.
Knowing what you are doing is a better skill to have. If there is "method in your madness" you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I find that I always start off with a very organised desk and by the end of the day/ week/ month, it looks like a total mess but I know where everything is and I always know what pile to look in first...

The key to organization is having a place for everything. If everything has a place then nothing should get out of place. The scissors go here. The toothbrush goes here. The socks go here. The cups go here. Keys go here. The dvd's go here. The remote goes here. Everytime you use something put it back in its place. Also, paper can be a major messy maker so try to open your mail and discard of unecessary paper immediately. Whatever paper you keep must have its own place in your household (filing system, paper trays or bins). Everything in your home has a home...Good Luck!
