I got a Bachelors in Business Administration from American Intercontinental University Online. They are accredited through SATURN. I think that degree was an absolute farce but it still counts. Does anyone work as an admissions counselor or has anyone gone through the same situation as me. Basically, I want to know if I can apply to a 4 year university to pursue a degree in Accounting (part of Business). If so, which universities allow that? Please do not reply telling me to just apply for an MBA program.

We just reviewed the policies of some of our local competitors on this issue, since we seem to have more and more students applying for dual degrees. I can tell you that schools are all over the place on this, from some which absolutely refuse to give a second bachelor's degree to anyone who already has one, to those who have no restrictions, other than not giving a second degree for the same subject matter (while accounting is part of business, we give a B.S. in accounting, rather than the BBA others get, for it). Check with schools in an area in which you are interested in attending.

One minor point- AIU is on probation with SACS- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools- one of the six regional accreditation bodies. They are technically still accredited, but SACS isn't happy with them right now over some issues. Regional Accreditation, however, is as good as institutional accreditation gets in the USA.

I've never heard of SATURN...

Off the top of my head, try Eastern Oregon University. They have an online BS in Accounting that might work.

Easier, but not a degree, would be to look at Louisiana State University's independent study program. You can complete 15-21 hours depending if you've already taken Intermediate Accounting or not, and earn a post-graduate certificate in accounting from LSU very cheaply. Of course, this is a non-starter if you're hoping to forget that AIU degree ever happened.

After that you could run with either Auburn or Connecticut's (among others) online MS Accounting Which is NOT an MBA- Accounting courses only.

If you're looking to go on-campus, find a school near you that has an Accounting degree that takes AIU credits. Call them, it'll be an easy question for a competent registrar.

you can certainly apply to a four year school for a "proper" BA degree
my best buddy is currently completing his second BA degree, it's not a problem.

just apply as a normal student would -- and if you have questions about that specific school, call them and ask!

good luck, you're on a good path
