Hindi should be made compulsory as one of the languages.
In India three languages will stay: regional, Hindi and English.
Regional language will connect you to your region.
Hindi will link up the whole country, and
English will serve as a connecting language Indians to the rest of the world.
The sooner the prejudice against Hindi is gone the better it would be.

You are highly mistaken friend. In South India, there are more people who follow Hindi apart from English. Hindi is a sweet language and easy to learn than any other Indian languages. Whether it should be compulsory or not is the choice left to each state.

of course !
Hindi is our National Language, its what Unites us. Its practical, that if everyone in India knos Hindi, then when people travel in different states, they can atleast communicate in Hindi, because there are so different languages in India, and some people who don't know English, knows Hindi, so Hindi language Unites us as Indians.

Looking at the answers so far it's a pity that there are still people who don't know their own country well.
There is nothing called "_the_ national language of India".
India has 24 officially recognised national languages. (Hindi is one of them, and these languages are the official languages of at least one state/u.t. in the country)
The central government communicates with members from other states in either Hindi or English. The common man is free to use any language he wants to and is under no obligation to learn Hindi or language X.
If it were a compulsion for every human to learn Hindi in this country, then every currency-note would've had just Hindi (instead of the whole list - if you look closely).

Hindi is our national language and also my mother tongue.I respect it .it is important.we all as Indians shuold know Hindi.it binds us and this way we can all call ourselves indians.
i think it should be made compulsory only in the southern states where they don't know how to read and write Hindi.North Indian states can speak, read and write pretty okay.
I opted for German after class 8 and dropped Hindi (I also gave my boards for German), does that mean I can't speak Hindi well?
NO

It is necessary but not cumpulsory.
It is better to explain the uses of Hindi learning process to them rather than order.Because India is an secular country here people are free to practise any relegion and language the like.
Most of the states in India having their own official language for speak and write.so if we made it cumpulsory it leads to an problem occured during 1960.

When politicians rule the country such aberrations continue to happen. For the politicians their and their party survival is the main aim. For this they will provoke all sorts of feelings of which one being Hindi language.
It is proved beyond any doubt that any compulsion will only lead to repulsion and desired results can not be achieved.
Now Chief Minister of Tamilnadu is insisting to make Tamil as official language in Chennai High Court.
