Theres no question that the weather is far different now than when I was a kid in Chicago. Examples that come to mind include remembering the large snowfalls we used to have that would close school. Another is the Sept. 22, 2006 tornado siren -sounding storm. I had taken my partner to a dental appointment by midway airport. As we were driving to it, I pointed out how strange and angry the sky seemed. Something just did'nt feel right. No tornado actually struck, but hearing those sirens for the first time in my life without it being a test sure got my attention. It was about 5:45 pm or maybe 6 pm. It made me realize that the day will come. even for Chicago. So yes, I have definitely noticed the changes.

This may sound cynical, but weather is almost always outside the norm. The attempt to define the norm is climate. Not only does weather vary widely from the norm, climate also varies, and the periods of climatic variations can be measured in generations. The West Central US just went through a drought that peaked in 2005. The last previous drought this severe peaked in 1934.

Absolutely! I live in North Florida. In the past six months, we have had an unprecedented number of tornados, including several on Christmas Day that wiped out several homes and businesses in Lake City. Then, about three years back, we had 3 back to back hurricanes....Mother Nature appears to be on a rampage lately. Last week our daily temps were averaging in the upper 80's, this week we're lucky if the daytime high hits 65. Weirdness.

Well yes, but just what is normal? I have seen cold years and warm years dry and wet. I have seen lakes freeze over in the deep south and few years before that not one flake of snow fall all year.
