How can i turn my laptop into a wireless range extender so that i can use my wireless router upstairs without buying an extender?
I also heard about how it is possible to make my laptop another wireless router itself. is this true?

You will not beable to make a laptop a range extender. A Range extender needs to beable to make a connection to multiple clients and a Access Point. Wifi adapters for computers only have the ability to make one connection at a time.
And you can make any computer into a router. Its called a Server...

U must need a compatible signal booster. else use a wire for upstair... connect the wire in routers lan and connect ur laptop to wire for access internet on upstairs............
