1. Basking sharks swim close to the surface of the water and appear to be sunning themselves like lizards. In fact, however, they are feeding on plakton. Why might a land-dwelling creature like a lizard need to sun itself, while a water-dwelling creature like a shark does not?

Maybe it's because water habitats have much more steady temperatures. Water resists temperature change.

Although both are cold blooded, a lizard(reptile) has to sun itself to get its motor running. Where as a fish does not.

First of all, a lizard is a reptile and a shark is a fish.
