On the phone or in emails, people seem to get a little more aggresive with me than they ever would in person. How do you handle it?

In business or service discussions, that is.

Maintaining a calm but strong demeanour lets them know that you are not going to be pushed around and that you are not going to stoop to their level (plus it really ticks them off that they can't get you to fight with them, lol).

I get aggresive right back with them. I've been through too much crap in my life to take it from someone over a phone or email.

A long silence is good for the phone. In emails just respond mechanically and matter of fact.

It's a bit primitive, but sometimes you have to fight back with your own aggression...they bark at you, you bark back. Usually they'll back down. Some people just like to see where you set your limits, and it's up to you to show them.

Say it loud and clear:

The only reason you can hear me now is that I know you didn't mean that as it sounded. Why don't I give you one more chance to apologize.

"Oops my phone dropped the call"

OR

"Wow that e-mail must not have come through"
