multiply 8 by 2 and you get 16 then add 1 and you get 17. and put that over 2.

answer: 17/2

well you multiply the whole number in this case 8 by the denominator of the fraction which is 2 so you get 16, then add it to the numerator, which is 1 now u get 17, write that over 2 and u get your answer 17/2

the way to change it to an improper fraction would be to:

1) first multiply 8 by 2 which would equal 16

2) then you would add the 1 to the 16 which would leave you with 17/2 as your answer.

multiply mixed # by denominator

add product to the numerator to get answer
