Part time MBAs are just as valid as full time MBAs--the coursework is the same, the hours spent in class are the same, the classes themselves are the same. The only difference between the two programs is the amount of time it takes to complete them, which is strictly personal preference and will have no bearings on your job opportunities. In general they do not. Getting an MBA from a top 15 ranked school will allow most people to switch careers (if they want) and to increase their salaries by 50% to 100%. Programs that are ranked, but not in the top 15 will help them increase their salaries enough to justify going full time and will give them lots of opportunities.

Going to a program that is not ranked doesn't do much for career opportunities -- expect, perhaps, at the company where you are already working.

Most part time programs are not ranked -- so fall into the category of not helping your career very much.

Most top schools do not have part time programs. Some of them -- particularly State Universities -- do have evening programs. The Ranked schools that have evening programs include Berkeley, NYU, Maryland and UNC.

Many top programs have weekend programs where you can get your MBA in two years. The better ones include Wharton, Duke, Northwestern, and a joint Berkeley-Columbia program.

Most employers do not care WHERE you get your MBA. Taranto is wrong. Employers love the fact that you were committed enough to get an advanced degree. You do not need to go to an Ivy League school or the like to be taken seriously as a grad student. Many state universities have remarkable graduate programs.

One more thing, your degree will NEVER say "Part time MBA". If you get your MBA online, your degree will NOT say online, it'll just state the University name. Example, getting your MBA online from Rice University will say Rice University. not Rice University Online.

If you do not tell a future employer that you got your MBA half time and/or online, he will not know.
