My daughter is only eating around 24 ounces a day. She was eating this much when she was 2 months old and back then it was a lot. She was 12.5 pounds and in the 75th percentile. I thought by now she would be eating more. All the websites say she should be eating around 28-32 ounces a day. She occasionally has a 27 ounce day, but that's it. She has her 4 month app. this week,so I am not sure how much she has gained. She is extremely happy, is playing and hitting all her milestones on time. She has actually hit them all before she should! Is she just destined to have a small appetite? I weighed myself and then weighed her, and it showed her being between 13-15 pounds. It doesn't seem like a big weight gain to me, but what do I know? Is this amount of formula okay for her? She is not on solid food yet, but I am hoping the doctor will give the okay on that....thanks for any advice.

You don't want to rush solid foods. The American Academy of Pediatrics just revised their feeding recommendations and you need to hold off on solid foods until the baby reaches 6 months.
If she's hitting her milestones, don't sweat it sugar. One of my kids had a little bitty appetite. Now he's almost 4, tall & thin, and he eats more at dinner than I do!
She sounds perfect to me, don't mess with perfection. Be sure to ask the doctor about solids, our pediatrician gave us a leaflet about the new feeding guidelines.
Since your little princess isn't chug-a-lugging the formula don't rush her. Offer it to her more often throughout the day, and see if that helps her consume more, but I wouldn't worry. She sounds great, mama. Relax.

If the baby is content with her feeding regement then she should be ok. As long as you are feeding her baby formula. How many times a day is she eating. try feeding her 6 oz. every 3 to 4 hrs. You could start to put a little bit of baby cereal in the bottle w/ the formula just a ratio of like 2:1 or 3:1 formula to oatmeal or rice, or you could use mixed fruit cerial. I did that w/ both my boys and they put on weight fast. Just remember not all babies are the same. You can't always go by charts and books. She might be a baby but she knows what she wants. Good luck.

My baby is 4.5 months old and she eats the same amount of ounces per day now that she has for the last couple of months (30). She hasn't changed the overall amount, just the number of feedings per day. She used to eat 6 5oz bottles, now she's eatch 5 6oz bottles per day. My daughter sounds a lot like yours weight-wise. She was just under 12.5 lbs at her 2 month checkup and she weighed in at just under 14 at her 4 month checkup. Sounds to me likes she's probably doing just fine on 24 oz.

A small appetite is okay, as long as the baby is gaining weight at a steady pace, and isn't losing any. If she were fussy alot, or fraile looking, I'd be worried, but you say she's happy and doing well. That sounds great. Her doctor may recommend cereal in her bottle to plump her up if she's too small at her appt. But you are the best judge of your babys behavior. If you say she's happy and well, then she's just that!

Ask your pediatrician, but I am pretty sure that the doctor will tell you that it is ok if the child has a small appitite. Your child is in the 75 th percential. That is heavier that "normal" but not bad. If the child is heavier than "normal" with a small appitite and seems quite normal as far as development, then you have nothing to worry. I am the father of two beautiful girls. I never worried how much my daughter's were eating, as long as they had their fill and they were content. Their doctors always told me that as long as the child is content and their are no dangers that are evident, not to worry. Check with your pediatrician, but I am sure he or she will put you at ease. IM me if it will make you feel better.

huh thats interesting. it might just depend on the babies appetite. my doc said my daughter should be eating at least 32 ounces a day at her 4 month appointment. if she is happy i wouldnt worry. i mean my baby is 5 months and she has 32 ounces and cereal and baby food, sometimes i think she eats too much lol like you said, she just has a small appetite, she isnt starving, so i wouldnt worry at all

She very well may just not eat as much as is "normal". Sounds to me like she is a very happy healthy baby, and I wouldn't worry too much about a few ounces a day.
