Being new may be a reason for him not eating. most tangs won't eat flake food and some won't even eat brine, only veggies. Try some Emerald Entre' It can be found in the frozen food section in the pet store. he will also eat lettuce.

Some tangs are very picky when it comes to meal time. Mine wouldn't eat flake , pellet or brine. however the Emerald Entre' didn't hang around the tank long.

Oh my! I have a Kole Tang and absolutely love him....so much personality!
Kole Tangs are voracious algae eaters...with that said, they need mostly greens in their diet with some protein. We buy Emerald entree for him and he is very healthy! It is a frozen food....don't know the brand off hand, but it is common so you should be able to find it or your local fish store can order it.
emerald entree has mostly spinach and other greens with a bit of brine in it.
The seaweed sheets are a great "treat" for your fish. E-mail me if you want to chat or go to saltwaterfish.com and read the chat boards there....loads of info on saltwater tanks!!!!

Your tang may just be too new to eat yet if you've purchased him recently. He'll probably like more natural looking foods than flake - I'd continue to try the brine shrimp, frozen plankton, mysis shrimp, Marine Cuisine, things like that - choose the food based on his size.

Tangs naturally eat a lot of greens as well. Seaweed can be bought dry (in sheets) and cut into squares to be put in clips inside the tank - these are like small clips used to hold bags closed, but they have a suction cup to attach to the glass. If your fish/pet store doesn't carry seaweed, check in bigger grocery stores in the oriental section for nori - it's a seaweed used in making sushi. You can also use romaine lettuce and spinach, but these aren't a natural food for them in the ocean, so I prefer not to use them myself. You might find some live seaweeds (macroalgae) at larger pet stores that you can give him. Tangs have a high metabolism, so once he gets used to your tank, it's best to have something he can nibble on whenever he wants.
