Let's face it! Our modern form of democratic government no longer relies upon the 'Free Press' to disseminate truthful information to 'We the People'. We should all know that it (the Powerful Federal Government) relies upon its ability to call any useful information, to 'We the People' 'SECRET', Confidential, or, For Official Use Only, as a way to keep that information from getting to us via the press. So, if you, as the citizen, had a way to make the federal government make their actions open to public (you and me) inspection, what would it entail?
If there was a 'Washington D.C. wall', (like the Berlin Wall) between you and the truth about what our (and you have to wonder if it is ours) government were really doing, how would you break through that wall?

The wall is there and as effective as the concrete Berlin wall. Our media needs to grow some balls and start printing what they know. What an uprising that would cause. Bush is evil and doesn't believe in civil liberties or the constitution. He believes in big oil and big money.

You face it!Why don't you show us some of these so called "secret"truths. You ask a question about an issue, but give no evidence that such things do exist. So did you and the Easter bunny formulate this because he(the Easter bunny)lives on the other side of your wall.Oh by the way ,your wall, that you describe around D.C. is nothing like the wall that kept in the masses much more than kept out the democracy. At least we (U.S.A. citizens) have the freedom to leave!

First, I think we'd find out that the economy isn't supporting the population and that education doesn't lead to wealth. I have a relative who obtained a PHD and looked for a position for over two years. He now has a job in his field but he told me that less than 10% of the PHD's get jobs in their fields. There are 800,000 attorneys in this country and 1,000,000 DO's and MD's. According to the ABA the starting salary for Attorney's is well over $100,000. I know over 100 attorneys and very few make $100,000. Most of the attorneys I know have been lawyers for over ten years. There are 300,000,000 people in the U.S. and most see a doctor twice a year. After the age of 55 most people need to see a doctor three times a year and (if my memory is correct) a persons final illness accounts for more than 50% of their life-time medical cost. I believe these facts are correct but the medical doctors I know have only a fraction of the buying power they had thirty years ago. These two groups are the top tiers of our earners but I think they are not earning nearly what is being reported. If they are hurting the rest of us are really bad off. I wonder if the economy isn't relitively worse than it was during the depression.

It's necessary for the government to have the power to keep secrets.

However like a lot of government powers it's subject to abuse, and I like a lot of people think the current administration probably is abusing it.

If that's the case, then what you'd find out is probably about what you'd expect to find out, that those in power are trying to run the country primarily for the benefit of a few powerful business interests, ultimately degrading the democratic system into a neo feudal arrangement.

What could be done is also about what you'd expect: You could vote the current people out, or you could engage in illegal activities.

It's not by luck you have the option to do the former, before the latter becomes necessary, btw.

I would learn alot more than what I should know and a lot less than what you think. The press has gone too far in their investigative reporting and put our country in real danger. The release of the secret CIA prisons should never have been released and caused real collateral damage to this country. Thanks free press. I really appreciate being put in danger because of our freedom of the press. One day our free press will start a war by releasing the wrong information. Thank God the press was alot less free during WW2 or else we would all be speaking either German or Japanese now.

The big problem is lots of what we don't know is classified and should that information get out, could cause some serious problems.

I for one am glad I don't " know everything" and even happier the Media doesn't have access to it. They would print the battle plans for tomorrow is they had them. Unlike the media in World War 2, today they have no morals, sense of values or fair play.

what is your government hiding from you... take a look around america.... at this rate people in russia and east germany will have more rights than you... don't you see your borders closing in,,,, shutting people out and limiting your outs... you're not free to go to cuba without penalties are you? you call that freedom? your rights are disintergrating before your eyes.... Bush and Hitler have a lot in common... that they were both elected is just one. If Bush tries to hit Iran...he'll be looking to extend his presidency a 5 th year.... something about a state of emergency due to a country at war!!!!

I think that if we were suddenly made aware of how much information was being withheld from us, we would have the sh*t scared out of us.

There are dangerous agendas in place which have nothing to do with freedom, or American's well-being.
