Have not experienced this, but here's my input so I can get points to ask my own questions. SQUEAKING could be a brake dust shield touching rotors (reach in and push inner shield out and pull outer shield towards you away from wheel). Could be low brake pad feeler (check pads thickness). If it's GRINDING check for obstruction in wheel well. Try turning wheel all the way to left turn while in park of course and check clearance. If all these check out fine I would suggest a little trick to avoid the hourly rate of a mechanic. Go to a reputable quick stop oil change joint. Purchase a full lubing which is good anyway, but let them know your issue. Most these dudes (or chicks) are very knowledgeable and might diagnose your symptoms
especially the amount of lube in your CV boots, which in turn may let you know if they're burnt out. BTW, Honda is notorious for CV joint failure.

Honda had two maintenance schedules for the 1997 model that were "recommended". the "normal" schedule called for oil changes every 7,500 miles. Normal means driving in areas with an average temperature of 70 degrees, low humidity, low dust and with 65% highway driving 35% city driving. Almost nobody has the luxury of driving in those conditions. The "severe" schedule called for oil changes every 3500 miles. Severe includes hot conditions, dusty conditions, or prolonged engine idling (stop and go traffic). Every Honda dealer goes by the 'severe' schedule. Oil quality has changed in the last 10 years. Honda changed to 5,000 mile intervals with the 2000 models and on the latest models they go to monitored intervals that have an on-board computer judge the way the vehicle is used and then turn on a maintenance light. Those intervals can go out to 7500 miles of city driving. I'd stay with the 3500 mile 'severe' schedule on the 97 and use a quality oil and the honda filter. Also, you need to change the drain plug washer on every oil change on the Honda or you're guaranteed an oil leak. hope that answers your question

I don't think it is the drive axle (cv joint) because when then boot busts, and the joints turn without lubrication, they make a clicking sound when turning and if you are just hearing a high pitch noise when turning, i would say check your power steering fluid, and you might want to have someone turn the wheel and you determine where the noise is coming from..?does it make the sound when turning with car in park? or just only when moving? email me back...with information..
