I am using turbo tax. So do you put in the amount from freelance into the w-2 part of turbo tax? Or dont do that section at all. This is my first year doing this on my own.

Freelance income is considered self-employment income. It goes on schedule C or C-EZ. Turbotax should also generate a schedule SE for self-employment tax.

The freelance income does NOT go in the part for W-2 income - if you don't have a W-2, then you don't do that section.

Amie isn't correct on the limit where you have to file - since you have freelance income, you have to file if the income is over $400.

if you earned less than $8,500 in 2006, you don't need to file taxes... and freelance work counts as self-employment which is a different form.
