"What does rap have to do with slavery?"
I don't think that rap is being written by Norwegian farmers from Michigan...

First, you're giving rap way too much credit. I'm sure in the sixties or seventies someone said the same thing about rock and roll. On the subject of slavery, it is abhorrent but America didn't start it. If you remember the people Moses led out of Egypt had been slaves for hundreds of years. It has gone on in every continent for as long as mankind has had recorded history and probably before that. America was probably responsible for the far less amount of it going on today because of the brave souls who gave their lives to eradicate it from our land during the American Civil War.

No. I am not a huge fan of rap, but I don't mind it being in the world. Slavery produced Jazz and swing too. But the only thing I don't like about rap is how all these people are like being gangster-posers. You know, the people with the saggy pants, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl T-shirts, the stupid hats and the "chains". Those people make me sick.

No, I think Rap has contributed (in some ways) more positively in later years. I think Gangsta Rap is on the decline and violent messages lessened.
In time the music will change as the times change, if the times are bad, the music will reflect it, Artist create with the intention of reflecting society, in hopes to inspire change, as least as far as Rap goes in my opinion.

Rap just vents/breeds hate mongers. That is my opinion.
Slavery was just a monetary evil deal to get cheap labor on large/huge plantations...it was over eons ago and we still are suffering from it.

I think rap had been abused to make society morally corrupt and evil, rap could have been used to educate and give moral and ethical values to our youth, but instead, its about guns, sex, drugs and money.
Rap is good, just like money, women and drugs, it cannot be denounced totally, but its how we use it.

people listen to music that relates to them, if you dont like some type of music its usually because you dont relate to it, and as for things that happened in the past, it happened, the past cant be changed but it can be used to help make a better future
