Bart Starr, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Dan Marino, John Elway, Roger Staubach, Brett Favre, Tom Brady. You could pick any one of these guys and not be embarrassed.

I'm going to cast my vote for Johnny Unitas. The quarterback who helped to put the NFL on the map with 1958 championship game in Yankees Stadium against the Giants. The game was considered the "Greatest Game" of all time, and Unitas lead his Baltimore Colts to an overtime victory against the Giants.

Then the Baltimore Colts beat the Giants again in 1959, this time at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. It seems to me that Johnny Unitas set the foundation for what it is to be considered a great QB. I'm sure if you ask other great QBs about who set the standard for excellence at that position, guys like Farve, Marino, and Elway would probably be quick to point out Unitas for his accomplishments, and how he went about playing the game.

Joe Montana

Can only comment on the last 45 years that I've been watching the NFL. In that time frame I'd say without a doubt John Elway. Physical abilities there has never been any better. He took 3 not real talented Denver teams to SBs (and lost) on his shoulders alone. It was only the last 2 SBs that he had a quality team around him and they won. Bill Walsh himself once said that if he would have had Elway on those great SF teams of the 90s they would have never lost.

Joe Montana would be QB of all time : 5 Superbowl rings.....you dont have to say anything further........I would vote for Marino, but he has no Superbowl, and thats what NFL is about, playing and winning the Big One...however no disrespect to his career for having countless records....

Marino, you can say all you want about no rings or anything, but my philosophy is imagine Marino being on the Niners with montana. Or Montana on the Dolphins. Who would win more super bowls? I think those Niners would still have been the winning teams. Marino played the game and played it right.
