At high enough temperatures, yes it will. It is a grease.

Well, I see that you've never been in a kitchen when I'm cooking. Put most anything in a skillet and turn up the heat and you can burn it pretty good but shortening will start a fire. The last part of the project is that you put it out with salt, not water.

yes shortening will go a flame if splattered on to the fire
