Talk about double standard...you are right. But, he should never call anyone a 'ho' - 'whore'...ok? That is where I draw the line. Talking about nappy-headed? Well, my two white neices are nappy headed blondes! ???? hair doesn't offend me but the word HO is a no no except for Santa Claus. lol
The rappers insult women too...and Imus does owe the appology but one thing he is noted for is his MOUTH! Says what he wants...gets paid to do that!
You are a very intelligent woman ... good for you!

Hi there- I TOTALLY agree with you on this. Not that it matters but I'm a white female and I really don't like rap, but hip hop is fine, but the rappers DO use MUCH more offensive language - and they're NEVER called on the carpet for it, NEVER. Imus was a bonehead for making such a stupid remark, but he's white so he's being made an example of. What about Spike Lee's films- he certainly has no love in his heart for white people. And that Latino comedian (who I don't think is funny) Carlos Mencia- he's a total racist! Yes, I feel it is totally hypocritical - also another interesting thing- ALL of the newscasters are just REPEATING what Imus said in the first place! So, should we suspend them, too? I come from the old school days when I bought the first RDMC cassette (wow that was a long time ago) and there's a song on there called, "Dumb Girls" - saying basically the same thing. Exactly, it doesn't matter if you're white or black or brown, being offensive, and to females in general, is just not right. I don't know why more record executives don't clamp down on the various rappers who use this language. But then, we come into a whole freedom of speech area, and it's a gigantic mess. A very embarrassing time for the 21st century. But, I agree with you.

Here's my opinion. I think Imus was trying to make a joke by stating the Rutgers basketball team were really tough, and that is why they earned their championship. He didn't say this in the correct manner, however, because his comments were interpreted as being racist and offensive to women, more so for stating the girls were "hos". That can easily be offensive. I am not defending Imus, he often says things that he retracts, and if anyone listens to him or sees his morning program knows what I am saying. He often rubs me the wrong way. What is wrong is people of the caliber such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton jumping on Imus, when, in fact, these numbnuts have often made racial comments and offensive statement towards many people. Sharpton is a blowhard, and the fact he claims he is a "Reverend" boggles my mind, giving his less than charitable attitude towards people. Jackson at least makes efforts to help people, but he also goes overboard with his opinions and making excuses for negative and even criminal behavior exhibited by dumb people. The choice of people being critical of Imus has been a circus, when, in fact, it is up to the Rutgers basketball team to decide whether or not they were offended and if Imus should be forgiven. "To err is human, to forvgive is divine". Rappers, by and large, of this time, are beyond my comprehension. I grew up during the 80's, and can barely recall many rap groups referring to women in such negative terms. There were a few groups, but they were not as prevalent as today. I feel for women in general who have to tolerate this garbage.

you do realize just about everybody hating on imus hates hip hop and does not like it and support it being banned. Black feminist groups have been at hip hop's throat since the begining. 2pac, ice cube, 2 live crew and so many more rappers have ALL been on the cross, its imus's turn. Yes some are hypocritical, but you also do realize that hip hop is on the cross with imus because he said "hoe", look at just about every question on here that has to do with him, they all involve imus and hip hop. People are blaming hip hop for something someone who isnt even part of the hip hop community did, what teh fcuk is up with that. You need to stop trying to put the blame on someone else and let Imus get crucifyed himself, he burried himself when he made a racialish sexistish slur about black women on the media, EVERYONE in the hip hop community knows thats a big no no no. You are right though some people like Al are blowing this way out of porportion, bob guess rappers are more prepared for handling the feminist and criticism, then Imus was. Bob just guess the feminist got the bayonette at his throat and check mate.
to the person who said hip hop NEVER been on the cross, do some research on how some states ban ice cube's music, how 2 live crew was taken to court for their explicit lyrics about women and 2pac vs C Delores Tucker. Anyone who thinks hip hop never been on the cross is like thinking that in the bible jesus was never on the cross and dont know hip hop, hip hop has been underseige since day one.

The world is hypocritical. America is the worst offender.
Blacks & Asians can help to build the country but can't share equally in the fruits of their labor. Broke agreement after agreement with the American Indians and shuffled them off to the reservations to be ignored to death.
Sometimes people have had enough. Sure we can't address all issues with the Imus comment....but we can address this one.
This one starfish can be thrown back in the ocean or left to die .... kind of a thing.
This was a personal identification issue he didn't say some "women" are ..... I have sister in laws, and three daughters ...and if they were on Rutger's team i would be upset too.
I'm a college grad, law-abiding citizen but people still look at me in elevators and move over.
Like Kanye said "you're still a '*****' in a coupe.

That is a tougher question than you know . . . . As a black female, yes you should feel offended by the remark, but then again as you are not a member of the specific group of black females Imus directed his remark at you should not feel personally offended. As a member of the human race we should ALL be offended whenever anybody utters stupid, hateful comments. We should also feel pity for the fear and ignorance that inspires those comments.

Yes, I think it's totally hypocritical. But I didn't even think of it from the reason you gave, though that makes a ton of sense and I think you make a very valid point!!
I just think that lately it seems to be the people who are in favor of free speech (Democrats and lefty groups like the NAACP, NOW, JDL, etc.) that are getting all upset when someone says something that they don't like. I don't think what Imus said was right, but if it's his opinion he has a right to express it, no matter how stupid it may be, and the aforementioned groups should realize that part of free speech is hearing things that you don't agree with or like.

I think it is hypocritical...Isaiah Washington didn't get fired for his behaviour against gays. He should not have said that however about such great athletes. They are not rap video hoodrats, they are accomplished and educated young women. All in all, Don Imus is an idiot - but so are most of the people in the media.

This is a major point that is being debated in the media.
This incident will be in the spotlight for awhile, but it certainly isn't going to change any of the rappers or their comedy shows!

It does matter who is insulting u, it's just the way it is. Almost everyone will react differently from the same insult coming from a stranger or coming from ur sis/friend/wife/hubby, etc... It's easier to get angry at an outsider.
