Im in 7th grade and my math teacher gave us some problem for fun and i have no idea how to solve can anyone help me? Its...

Use the quadratic formula: n=-b +/- sqrt b^2-4ac all divided by 2a...where a is the coefficient of n squared, b is the coefficient of n and c is the last number...so
n=-38 +/- sqrt of 38^2-4(6)(-60) all divided by 12...the +/- means you find two answers..work it once with + and then again with -..good luck

n = 1.3086 or
n = -7.6419

An equation of the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0 is a quadratic equation. Your variable is n, but x is used for general formulas.

x^2 means x multiplied by x, or x squared

There is a quadratic equation calculator at:

http://www.1728.com/quadratc.htm

There are two solutions to an equation of the form

ax^2 + bx + c = 0

that are

(-b + sqrt(b^2 - 4ac) )/ 2a

and

(-b - sqrt(b^2 - 4ac) )/ 2a

where sqrt = the square root of the expression contained inside

for the derivation of this solution, see:

http://www.1728.com/quadr2.htm

the derivation is a little complicated, so just memorize the formula.

for the equation 6n^2 + 38n - 60 = 0

a = 6
b = 38
c = -60

x = (-38 + sqrt(38^2 -4 x 6 x -60)) / 2 x 6

x = (-38 - sqrt(38^2 -4 x 6 x -60)) / 2 x 6

Yes, you are right.
It is ugly math problem

6n Squared+38n-60=0

6n^2+38n-60=0

divide each term by 2

3n^2+19n-30=0

a=3
b=19
c=-30
19*19-4(3)(-30)=361+360=721
n1=-19+sqrt(721)/6
n2=-19-sqrt(721)/6

7th grade, huh? Well, I will try to explain one way to solve it. There are many but I don't know how much you have learned.

The equation has a factor of 2 : 2(3n^2 +19n -30)=0

We are only concerned with the polynomial...we try to factor and that doesn't work...are you sure you have the signs correct?

As the next try, use the quadratic formula, do you know that?

If you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratic_equation and look under the heading "quadratic formula" it shows you the formula so you can work it out cuz i cant show u on here because of the symbols.
