When they are doing you more harm then good.

Your second answer is really good but you should throw in adenoids with those symptoms too.

After many sore throats my tonsils just decided to poison me and deteriorate at the age of 11 putting me in the isolation ward of the hospital until the doctors could figure out what was wrong. Which took about a week. Fun!

When breathing and sleeping don't happen at the same time.

When you can hear yourself snoring 30 seconds before you're actually asleep.

When all of your neighbors tease you about how loudly you snore.

When you are so tired when you wake up that you could nap 3 or 4 times a day and still not feel rested.

When your spouse tells you that you stop breathing when you're asleep...a lot.

When you get sore throats so often that Cepacol is part of your diet.

Normally when a child has frequent tonillitis and has difficulty breathing normally and also difficulty eating, even weight loss.

Oddly, studies have just been shown to show an improvement in patients who have ADHD who have their tonsils removed. The study concludes that it has something to do with poor sleep. (My sister went through this)
