The short-term effects of marijuana use include problems with memory and learning; distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch); difficulty in thinking and problem solving; loss of coordination; and increased heart rate, anxiety, and panic attacks.
THC in marijuana is strongly absorbed by fatty tissues in various organs. Generally, traces of THC can be detected by standard urine testing methods several days after a smoking session. In heavy chronic users, traces can sometimes be detected for weeks after they have stopped using marijuana.

People who smoke marijuana often have the same respiratory problems as cigarette smokers. These individuals may have daily cough and phlegm, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, and more frequent chest colds. They are also at greater risk of getting lung infections like pneumonia. Marijuana contains some of the same, and sometimes even more, of the cancer-causing chemicals found in cigarette smoke.

Marijuana affects memory, judgment and perception. Learning and attention skills are impaired among people who use marijuana heavily. Longitudinal research on marijuana use among young people below college age indicates those who use marijuana have lower achievement than the non-users, more acceptance of deviant behavior, more delinquent behavior and aggression, greater rebelliousness, poorer relationships with parents, and more associations with delinquent and drug-using friends.

Besides the impact of smoke on the lungs, I am aware of two women friends who used to be intelligent people. With each having over 25 years of daily use - anything from a puff or two, to half a joint or more - they are both no longer the intelligent, competent, resiliant women I met in 1980 and 1984. Both are in their 50's - low end of that decade. One just fell down a flight of stairs, breaking her wrist and bashing her face. The other couldn't own up to destroying a car left in her care, saying she was "paralyzed" when asked why she couldn't speak up with the truth. Lying seems to be something both do very easily.

On the male side of pot consumers, one 65+ year old hippie I know is totally on meds to keep an even keel with his emotions. He is verbally and emotionally abusive to his wife. He still 'has to have' his pot daily. So it is not addictive? Or is he still in a rebellion? Dunno ... And another one just never stopped, he's in that rebellion for sake of it mode, too. He'll be 60 this year.

So, short term use - many respondees speak of the munchies, seed burns, potential problems with the legal system, etc. - may trigger some of the emotional burdens which seem to thoroughly saddle those who have smoked it for a very long time.

Would suggest a short experiment with it... and then chalk it up to a life experience, so you know what it is like. Move on to something else which provides true lasting joy in your life.

Maluhia - peace

yep -- lots of effect. Believe me - health professionals don't really care about what you are taking -- however, these drugs can have severe interactions with anesthesia - cause damage, or even death. For example, cocaine interacts with certain meds used in anesthesia and can cause a heart attack when mixed. In addition, if patients are using drugs or drinking a great deal prior to surgery, they may have withdrawal symptoms afterwards -- doesn't necessarily have to be about addiction but accomodation (your body is used to the medication and will freak out if it doesn't get it) but withdrawal can be minimized with medication if the doctors and nurses know about it before.

The single biggest risk to marijuana is arrect and incarceration.

Chemically marijuana is non-addictive and non-damaging with irregular use. Alcohol, aspirin and tobacco are far more dangerous than marijuana

actually, on the lung effects, while there are cancer causing chemicals present, interestingly, the TCH inhibits their activation and marijuana smokers do not get lung cancer.

the legal consequences are far and away the most significant dangerous effects. the drug is more benign than cigs, alcohol, prescription pain and sleeping meds, antidepressants, and more

While stoned it can sometimes cause panic attacks and paranoia. And sometimes when you're not high it can cause panic later. But not too many effects..i mean you are stil inhaling smoke so it's not great for your lungs. But there's no reported cases of death. Can't overdose...just maybe get way too high lol
