I ll answer your second question first.
Dhoni easily is more into advertisements, and Afridi i have only seen in one ad for Pepsi.
With regards to their cricketing ability.
Afridi:
He is one of the few batsmen to maintain a career strike rate of over 100. With a blistering hundred on debut, and the second fastest century in ODI cricket on his day Afridi is a treat to watch. Hits from the very beginning, demoralizes the bowlers with incredible shots even on good deliveries. If he settles, no score is too small, yet no captain can ever trust him to whole-heartedly to guide the team out of a tough spot, even though he can. An excellent partnership- breaker (like Sachin and Jayasuriya) he bowls pacy leg spin and is also a very good fielder. He also posseses a wealth of experience and yet due to his inconsistency is never a permanent in the team.
Best moment: his 45 ball hundred against India.
Dhoni:
India's rising star, brings back memories of Sachin during his prime without the panaché that the little master possesed, uses more of raw power. He differs from Afridi in that he takes some time to settle and when he does he too can plunder any bowling attack. Another aspect where he is different from Afridi is that you can to some extent rely on him in the slog overs, that being the time he usually bats. The only problem being he does not offer that flexibility that Afridi does in terms of batting positions. Also at times his wicket-keeping leaves a lot to be desired. Still relatively new when compared to Afridi, provided he does not play like he did in this world cup, he has the potential to become on of India's best strikers.
Best moment: 183 runs in a match becoming the highest score by a wicketkeeper-batsman.

By way of endorsement, Dhoni has earned more popularity during a short period. While both Afridi and Dhoni are aggressive players, the main difference between them is that Afridi starts playing aggressive shots from the word gpo, whereas Dhoni starts playing aggressive shots after he settles down.

Other than aggressiveness every thing else is different. Both are match winners.
I feel that Afridi would have been a more successful player had
Pakistan handled him properly.
However as per records Dhoni topped the ICC ODI rating for some period.

Afridi's style differs with Dhoni's. Afridi is proven in both the form and also he is fit in all the top order position. But, Dhoni cannot be tried with top order.
One thing similar, both of them are proven pinch hitters.

hello haneef, this is rockstar from india dont again think that afridi is 0 in INDIA he also has fans in india. The reason that afridi has more runs than dhoni is that he is more experienced player than dhoni. I can tell u both are huge entertainers in cricket and heros in their respective countries and if these two are present in the ASIA XI team along with SANATH OF SRILANKA and other players of asia no team can defeat this team evn if they from worldXI to defeat it we'll win in one day format and 300 runs score will be possible in twenty20 format

Both are aggressive.
Afridi is much better. he devotes himself fully in batting, bowling, fielding and gets popularity purely from his skillness on the cricket ground. whereas Dhoni divides his concentration between batting and endorsement & became more focused through his style of endorsement.

being an Indian i would say that afridi is better in his aggressive style and many aspects of the game such as bowling and fielding. but i would like to say dhoni became more popular than afridi through playing style endorsements.

according to me both of them r a bit irresponsible in the way they play and get out so consistently without scoring good runs, but if i have to chose b/w them i'd rather go for afridi b'coz he does'nt do as many ads but still he's quite popular & thats b'coz he is more committed towards the game & always gives his 100% rather it be bowling, batting or fielding which is unlikely for dhoni.
