Honda has a service bulletin out for the transmission on the 2000-2004 S2000 for a condition where the shifter pops out of gear when driving over bumps or cruising at steady speeds. The condition is very intermittant and only affects a small percentage of the vehicles produced. The repair is only done when the problem is in evidence; it is not a recall. The repair requires that the mainshaft 3rd and 4th gears be replaced. The bulleting number is 01-100. Note: only a portion of the 2004 production is affected. As all of these vehicles are now out of the original warranty you would need to contact a dealer to see if Honda is making any repairs of this nature as goodwill. Once the warranty expires they consider each repair on its individual merits.

the convertible top is electric and is not removed to install the hard top. It is lowered to the 'down' position before the hard top is put on.

hope that answers your questions
