Both genres of music are great and I'm proud to be one of the few who have answered this question that can appreciate both. For anyone who says that rap music takes no skills or talent, they have no clue what they are talking about. Most of the people hating on Rap music only know of the few rappers they see and here on tv and radio. You see, they seldom play much rap other than the "gangsta rap" so the perception is wrong. Some of the most influential music have been from Rap bands. Besides Rock has more than it's fair share of junk and nonsense as well.

Rap and Rock are more alike than most people realize. Both have numerous sub genres to them that incorporate other types of music. Both Rap and Rock are musically diverse. Take Elvis, Parliament-Funkadelic, Metallica, The Beatles, and Lynard Skynard. All those I mentioned are rock bands who sound completely different with their lyrics and music style and are/were great. Take Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, EPMD, and Wu Tang. Again they all have completely different sounds with lyrics and music style.

Rock and Rap are also interchangable. We have rock bands who rap and rap bands who rock. It's basically all the same. That's why Rap has survived all this time and not faded away like a fad that people thought it was. Like my friend always says, they should just get rid of the labeling of music because that just builds walls.

Okay . I personally like rock better because it sounds more raw , like the artist are acually pooring thier heart and soul into the music . But , rap has a more urban appeal , I guess it all depends on the type of rapper and what they are rapping about (yet again , rock does have alot .... ummm suggestive lyrics too so...) .But what I like best is when rock and rap colide .Some examples are fall out boy and Jay - Z , Jay - Z and some band , but the song was called "What The Hell Are You Waiting For",and Pharrell. Now that , is pure brilliance!

Personally, I prefer rock because it (usually) involves several different instruments being played and not synthesized.
But to be fair, I do not think rap is a no-talent genre. Sure, everyone says it's all computerized beats but I challenge whoever says that to lay one down as good as Timbaland, Will.i.am or Dr Dre. All those people are talented in their own rights. Also, think of how difficult it is to write so many rhymes and be able to rattle them off articulately and conveying a message simultaneously. Check out Outkast's album Stankonia or any of the Roots songs. You'll see just how good rap can be.
But me, I'm sticking with rock

I like to rock! It's what I grew up with. It was the style of music my father listened too. My brother was into the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, etc. My friends also listened to rock, so it's the style of music that I got into.

I'm always down for a good melody or just a hard rockin' tune! Rap on the other hand may work for other people, but it just isn't my style.

Rock. It's just better, raw, meaningful. Sounds better.
I cant bare rap but i respect those who like it, i just hate it when people only listen to it because everyone else does. But as Kurt Cobain once said- ''"I think rap music is the only vital form of music that has been introduced to music in a long time since punk rock.'' It's still **** though.

Rock'n'Roll!
Rap has no meaning and no talent. I haven't seen any rap effect the world in the way rock n roll did. Elvis, the stones, the beatles, led zeppelin, pink floyd, jimi hendrix - they all changed the world with their music. What rappers can claim that? Tupac can't even claim that, I mean "Changes" was his best song and no one seemed to get the message there. Rock n roll is for the outcasts. It's the music of revolution and change. There were no rap songs protesting Vietnam! Hell no! It was Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and Black Sabbath.

I prefer Indie rock and punk pop over rap just because of the great lyrics and great sound some bands have As for rap I'm not into it I'm more into hip-hop (meaningful rap) which is basically dead now

i once listened to nothing but rap and then went to a rock concert and never turned back to crap i mean rap again. rock music is so much better especially a live show. rap is mostly done over a keyboard while rock has various instruments. i love to watch someone rip a guitar especially if they know what they are doing. ROCK ALL THE WAY
