CIA connection?
How does the CIA connect to the citizens of the United States? How does it touch our lives? When does it make "the news"?

CIA do not really connect to U S citizens. Their job is to gather and analyze raw intelligence. The CIA do not want to make the news. It is not James Bond.

The CIA gathers information from around the world and interprets it. The government uses that information to help forumulate its policies and actions towards other countries. In some cases, the CIA finds information that may be related to someone trying to damage the US or its interests.

The CIA also goes a little further and will occasionally be called upon to take actions, generally secretly, to help the interests of the US. This could involve capturing or eliminating certain folks, training people to fight our enemies, etc. These are sometimes what is called "black operations", which would be denied by the US unless great pressure is applied.

While it sounds a bit creepy, intelligence gathering, and secret intelligence gathering is important to each country. The information lets countries understand what the others are doing, both good and bad, and may actually lead to lessened tensions between countries.

The CIA rarely makes the news, and generally doesn't want to be in the news at all. Sometimes a CIA agent is "outed" or identified, other times there is a story on certain operations in other countries. Mostly you will hear about the CIA when the information they retrieve is presented to congress or made public.

Most of what the CIA does is probably on the boring side and involves just reading tons of reports, looking at zillions of photographs, and listening to millions of phone calls. There is a lot of automation used to speed that up, but at some point you need human eyes to look at the important stuff.

If you watch James Bond movies, you will see a fine example of an agent that wouldn't last a week in the field.

The US is not the only country with a CIA like organization. Occasionally spies are found in the US from many other countries, including some allies.

There are even some organizations in the US that have engaged in covert intelligence gathering. The Scientologists got into trouble for this a few years back.

It isn't meant to, usually. The C.I.A. covers international situations, while the F.B.I. handles national security.
If the C.I.A. does his job, you won't even notice them.

When the seditious and socialists in this country try to impose an insane ideology of "total honesty and openness" with all U.S. security issues, then you hear about the C.I.A.

You also hear it when they do something wrong. Remember that the news is about the strange, the odd, the things that people DON'T expect (amazing how many people don't realize that). We never hear about crimes by ex-cons, dishonest used car salesmen (sorry guys, but your record is much lower than the general population), or the good things that Christians do. They happen all the time. We hear about the normally exemplary service industries (police officers, military, government, teachers, etc.) that have a much higher level of integrity (just to do their jobs and get a position) who have the rare exception to the rule.

That's the only reason the general public hears ANYTHING about the C.I.A.

If you ever find a connection or get an answer to any of your questions then the CIA has failed to do it's job.

they're responsible for 9/11, at least provoking the attack by starting revolutions abroad. it's too bad no one accepts this. You lose sight of the whole strategy of the game and don't understand the moves your enemy makes.

If they always made the news, they wouldn't be doing their job very well. They are suppose to operate in secret.
