alright, the raiders are leaning on making a trade to acquire josh mccown and draft calvin johnson. the lions want joe thomas. however, both teams still need a franchis qb. what do you think are the odds of troy smith going to one of these teams in the second round? he's not projected til the mid 2nd round, but do u see this as a bad idea for these two teams?

i wont be suprised if he drops to the 4th or later, and nobody wants to say "last years 4th round pick(or later) is our franchise QB of the future!" when guys from later rounds become superstar qbs (tom brady) its more because right place right time, or luck slowly turned to real talent. any team that EXPECTS a late round qb pick to become the next brady... i would bet that they are drafting in the begining of the 1st round every year... pats were lucky to strike gold with brady. and im a brady and pats fan. i liked troy smith, but i fear he wont have much of a future...

I agree with you. Both teams need a franchise QB. Troy Smith is not a franchise QB. He is small, doesnt have the speed to be a Michael Vick type QB, doesnt have the size or passing accuracy to be a great pocket passer, he seems injury prone, and if I were a NFL GM I wouldnt take him until at least the 4th round.

Forget the mid 2nd round, Troy Smith isn't projected to be selected before about the 4th round.

And I do see it as a bad idea for any team to count on Troy Smith to be their starter. It's a decent idea for a team with a good starter to bring him in to see if he can take over one day a few years in the future, but it would be stupid for any team to COUNT ON him becoming their franchise QB.

He isn't going to be anybody's franchise qb, at least in my opinion. It's not a lack of talent holding him back, it's a lack of physical attributes. Franchise qbs can be drafted in later rounds if they have the capacity to succeed (Tom Brady) but Troy just can't be better than a backup qb at any time in his career.

all of yall think hes too short to play QB but Drew Brees is the same height as him. he played excellent all season beating Michigan twice and he rarely turned the ball over and had a 67.6% completion percentage.he might have been bad in the BCS championship but Florida shouldnt have been there. Boise state should have. he will go in the 2nd or 3rd round but dont start doubting him in the NFL. i can see him starting in a few years.

I thought you said you wanted a franchise QB he showed he can't play against real defenses.

That would be a wasted draft pick.
