I live in a college town (KU) and you wouldn't believe the stuff those spoiled little rich kids throw away! I have found many awesome treasure's. I found a beautiful mint condition oak antique round table. It was so perfect ,I actually knocked on the door to make sure it was trash! It was a couple on college guys and one said it was his great grandma's and he hated antiques! This thing was worth of $1000. I felt so uneasy about taking it, I even told then how much he could get from it at a dealer, and he didn't care, he said take it and I did. It is now my beautiful kitchen table! A few years back just down the street from my house, a college kid had a two year old car at the time, they didn't feel like taking it home, so they put a note on the windshield and an envelope with the title already signed saying; whoever finds it can have it! They ran a article in the newspaper here and contacted the student to make sure it was not a hoax and the person that found it was going to call the cops and have it towed as an abandoned vehicle! In the end after all the people were contacted the finder really did get to keep the car! I only wished I was so rich and spoiled to throw away a 2 year old car in perfect condition!

No matter what state I've lived in, the BEST trash to treasure items i've seen done over and over again is a Washing Machine and a Dryer! Everytime I've ever put out a W/D to be picked up by trash collectors, it's gone during the night! Apparently, those things can be fixed for basically pennys on the dollar and resold for hundreds!

Oh God, when I was in college that was treasure season at the end of the semester! I got a couple couches, a loft, a grill, an old antique milk can. I love curb-surfing still.

Don't know if you would call it a treasure but I have found enough furniture to furnish 5 apartments through the years and once 6 bags of leather jackets.
