Boise, Idaho is my hometown.
When I was in high school, I wanted nothing more than to get out! I hated it. I thought it was too small, the people were so small minded, and there was NOTHING to do...
But I graduated and moved away, and I missed it so much. I missed the beautiful trees, the crisp smell of the air, and the rolling hills. The downtown structures had such character, and the fact that you could go to any person on the street, and say hello without having fear. People smile back there. There are local band shows every weekend at the "grove" downtown. The weather is always seasonably perfect. The winters are mild, the summers are warm. There are never any natural disasters. I can't wait to get back there.

I was born/raised in SF. I now live in a town of about 100,000 about 50 mi. east. It is a growing suburb but still retains somewhat of a small-town feel. By that I mean that I can count on running into at least one person I know on an almost daily basis.
It's on a river and has a nice, peaceful small downtown district. The town is surrounded by foothills where cows still graze.

You can go downtown and do anything urban, ski in winter, take your sail boat out in summer, find yourself in a rain forest and all that without even leaving the city, everything is within 30 minutes with traffic.
The name of the city is Vancouver!
If you are too lazy to do any of that, you can just enjoy the view of the blue water, the mountains and the green trees while having coffee by a marina right in downtown.
