Are circus animals abused? Whenever I see a commercial on circuses and I see an elephant sitting on a chair I cringe with horror. Or when a tiger jumps through a hoop of FIRE I just wince at the pity of the poor tiger. However, I have read that they actually don't abuse these animals. Honestly, I'm confused and I don't know anymore! Do people abuse circus animals???

Like anything, it depends on the individual circumstances. Some animals in some circuses are likely treated extremely well and others not so much. Trained big cats really do bother me because they were never intended to be treated as domestic animals. I am concerned that although elephants are used as domestic animals in many countries, the circus life of traveling may not be the best life for them. Trained horses and dogs don't bother me - they are domestic animals and can adapt to performing for audiences.

Well in my point of view since they are making the animals suffer I personally think Yes Circus's do abuse their animals...Some circus's don't, but they still do many harm as well...I think animals should be free not used for entertainment purposes...Also why should these animals be here with these people that are making themselves lok bad, and hurting the animals...I ust think they are doing animal cruelty...Can you believe there is no none there to stop it..I mean animals could seriously get hurt performing these stunts they make them do like jumping through fire...etc....

So in my case I think you are looking at people who abuse animals ... I hope you can help me and many people out there find a cure to stop this abuse!!

It's true. Most circus animals are abused, it's very common. For me, I don't agree with circuses in the first place, it's exploitation of animals for profit. Animals should be out in the wild where they belong. The only thing you can do is to not support the circus trade and don't visit them.

This is what I think....These are wild animals born to live in the wild. At least in zoos they provide habitats similar to that of what they would have in the wild and most animals in zoos are in captivity because they have been rescued. Circus animals spend a lot of time being hauled around in trailers and pinned up in small areas eating hay. It is very sad. What kind of life does a wild animal have living out of a trailer and doing tricks for people? I don't think they have much of one. We had a small circus come to our town not long ago and my children wanted to go. But I couldn't bring myself to take them. When we passed by, there was a baby elephant in a pin that was about 12x12 feet small...I don't like that.

some circuses do abuse their animals, and I mean really abuse them. I saw one where they were whipping a baby tiger. A lot of the abuse is illegal and sometimes the captive animals should not even be in their in the first place. Go on the peta and they will show you a lot of abused circus animals. You can also go on to google and look for animals friendly cicuses. Not all circuses are bad.

I just watched an undercover video of the employees beating the elephants for no reason! Even when they behave they strike them. They beat them backstage during a show too! Everyone please don't go to the ringling bros. and Barnum and bailey circus or any other animal circus ! It's time to put these evil people out of business!

To me any animal taken out of it's natural environment is being abused.
