I want to know if its inherent talent or can a person like me just really strive hard to learn how to play by ear? If you know anyone who has tried for ears and still cant be able to, please say so.

I've learned some songs by ear, and then when I buy the sheet music I usually find out I play them wrong. The best thing is that if you come up with a good version of a song, someone will know that song and show you the correct chords. As with anything else, the more you practice at it, the better you'll become.

nothing is impossible but everyone I know that learned to play by ear has just had the inherent talent. None of them ever learned to read music. My brother can play any instrument by ear. Obviously he got all the talent in the family. I learned to read music and still can't even play the pots and pans...LOL

I can.... it does just take tons and tons of practice.... I write down notes that I can easily identify.... then I try to play the song after I've listened to it like that....
