Both had been poisoned. It seems her house and her next door neighbors home shared a common pipe and the neighbors house was being fumigated. The fumigation chemicals leached over to her home and poisoned them both. The cat died and she almost died, she was also using a patch which confused some of her symptoms and resulted in her falling into a coma and losing her hair.
