Homeostasis refers to an organisms keeping its internal environment in a relatively steady state condition. It is generally maintained by negative feedback cycles. There are several examples of negative feedback in the menstrual cycle. For example, the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus causes the release of lutenizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary. However, high levels of LH and FSH inhibit the release of more GnRH.
