Is he a male or f. if male then he probably looking for an female he need his time and you have to look after that he do not lost somewhere . i do have a dog J/R male and he been Roaming for sometime i have been understanding i play with him more was outdoor him very often give him attention . good luck

That is what JRT's do. They need a leash and a fenced in yard at all times. And that does not always work. Mine tries to dig out often. You just need to watch it.

Is the problem that your dog will not stay home? Is he / she neutered?
Some breeds of dogs are natural roamers due to their breeding. He sounds like a candidate for a full time fenced yard.
