74 is fine for plecos and live well with fantails and in tanks and outdoor ponds. As was mentioned, plecos can get large, much larger than 12 inches.

Here in PA we catch them in the rivers and lakes well in excess of 2 feet (Especially when trout fishing, and yes they will eat small minows and worms). Most plecos raised for aquaria rarely get that large. Remember, your pleco is a Herbivore and even though there is algae, they still need to be fed green veggies to supplement their diet (Great for your goldies too). Emerald Entre' is another good frozen food great for both goldfish and Plecos.

74 is ok for a pleco, but I would caution you that common plecos can get to 12" or more in an aquarium environment, so unless you have a quite large tank, you might want to consider using something like a bristlenose pleco. They do the same job, can stand the temperature and don't get as large. They do usually cost a few dollars more, but better that than the fish suffering from cramped living conditions IMO.

74 should be fine, but get a heater to keep the temperature constant. no fish does well with fluctuations.
watch it with the pleco and goldies. the plecos have been known to suck on the slime coat of the goldies leaving them open to disease.
also hope you have a large tank. plecs and fantails get pretty big and are dirty fish.

hope this helps

No it is not. Plecos are tropical fish and need at least 78 degrees. Also are they healthy and active, if they stay and hide in spot and not even try to suck the glass when the lights are turned off or on then the temperature is definatly too cold and they are inactive.

You should have a heater, plecos are tropical fish. it's better to have a heater, just in case.
