I'm doing a report on special education for severely developmentally disabled children.

I heard that the number of special education schools are dwindling, if anyone can provide me with a SOURCE (I need to be able to defend where the information came from) on its numbers I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

I'd also like to know how much funding special education schools receive in comparision to public and/or private schools. I need a source for that too, thank you

Most special education classes are taught by credentialed teachers working on regular public education campuses. Being on a regular school campus is considered a less restrictive placement than placement at private education programs. Districts only pay for private services when a student's disability is so severe that the student's educational needs can not be met in specialized classes offered by the district. Some districts have contracted for the state or county to offer classes for severely retarded and/or emotionally disturbed students off campus. Many districts are now taking these classes back because it is more cost effective to run them in-house. You might contact the Los Angelas County Office of Education (LACOE) districts have taken most of the special education classes back from them in the past few years.
In effect, what is changing is who is running the classes.

There is a university for the deaf. Guallett in washington dc. In tennessee we have the school for the blind and one for the deaf.
Every school in the us has to provide services for special ed students. The schools receive funds from state and from federal. There is a lot of money the schools receive that are ear marked for sped.

in your search engine put federal sped funding. It will give a lot. also go to your state website and click education then special education they will have some numbers for you.

every school in the us will have a report and it will give the amount of students your state has that are determined sped. this will be on your state website also. if you need anything else contact me at andthompson_99@yahoo.com
