People and chickens are different. The brain of a chicken is located far back so that when the head is cut off by someone who is not skilled at slaughtering them the brain and brainstem are unharmed and the chicken will be able to move until it bleeds out. People have more obvious brain locations and if a head is cut off that is the end right there.

I think you have been watching too many horror movies.

I'd have to say that the amount of blinking would vary...Actually, that seems pretty obvious. On a human, rather than a chicken, there might be no blinking, but I know a chicken would probably blink or do something else like open it's beak. That's as best as I can answer right now, due to the fact that I don't watch peoples heads being severed.

It has been discussed for centuries if a person remains conscious after his head is cut off. Escpecially during the French revolution. But I don't think this is the case. The facial movements that may occur are most likeley just unconscious reflexes. The local nerves are agitated and cause a movement in the muscles apart from the will.

The head lives and processes information for roughly 15 to 20 seconds after a successful decapitation. This is why the exocutioner would hold the head up by it's hair for the crowd to see. That king would know for that long what the people really thought about him.

It will vary every time. I remember reading a few years back that in medievil times they used prisoners to do studies on that sort of stuff, they told them to blink as many times as they can after they lopp off their head, spouting some kinda religious stuff at them to make them do it. From what I remember, the brain can stay active up to 5 minutes after being severed, and you can still have those minor functions, blinking, and opening and closing your mouth.

I've never experienced the need to blink my eyes after decapitation.

But in butchering chickens, they will blink, look around and their beaks will open and close for about 10 or 15 seconds.

It shouldn't blink, it would probably twitch a few times though.
