To me, that still appears to be the overwhelming obstacle for people who otherwise like the Democrats.
And I'm not talking about totally banning abortion, but merely backing away from the "at will" laissez-faire approach we have now by making it available for numerous particular reasons (much like Britain, Japan and India.)

Why should Democrats change anything? Let the Republicans change, they're the ones that need to. Sheesh.

Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader, is pro-life. There is room in the party for differing views on some issues. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats will be doing away with legal abortions any time soon.

Even as an atheistic, liberal person who is also anti-abortion,

I would still not go for the Dems or the Repubs because they are both full of sht

and are the same establishment playing good cop/bad cop,

They are corporate/special interest whores like the rest of them.

First of all, I don't even believe Republicans would ever really do anything about the abortion law,

they had the majority for a long time and didn't do jack sht for the abortion cause.

Hardly anything has been brought to the Supreme court that should.

They all want abortion, it keeps the poor and especially the minority population down.

...and 'some' Dems absolutely disgust me with their all or nothing approach to abortion, total unrestriced, unregulated abortion seemingly without a compassionate bone in their body, what the fk kind of person knows for a fact when a 'fetus'/baby in the womb can feel pain, sees the cruel and barbaric way they are destroyed and outright doesn't give a damn, actually fights to keep it done?
they are merely whores for the abortion industry and special interest feminist groups.

I already vote Democrat (although I never commit to joining political parties!) If they changed their stance on abortion, I'd consider them traitors to me and to women in general. I'd then be in the position that women were in about 35 years ago....able to vote, with some improvements in opportunities for jobs and education, but still treated shamefully unequal to men.

AFAIC, the Dems are not really committed enough to defending a woman's right to control what happens to her own body (they backpedal and soften statements all the time in a mistaken attempt to woo "centrist" voters), but they're better about choice than the Repubs are....so for now, I'm voting Democrat.

NEVER! The worst thing about Democrats, are they are too close to Liberalism, and Liberals ARE Socialist, no matter what they say! I trust a dictionary and what it says about Liberalism, than I do the word from the mouth of a Liberal. Freedoms die with the Democrats, like Social Security, and the guarantee's made by FDR.
If Democrats did change their minds about abortion, it would be a miracle! Then they would have to bow to God, and confess that they are murderers of babies, and/or have previously thought that a babies murder was okay. This will never happen. It would tear them apart to have to admit to such an act, as how could they live with themselves after? If they were honest, they couldn't. And, since most of them want the 10 commandments out of public buildings, schools, courts, and libraries, would they then say that the 10 commandments should be re-instituted into the public view again? It's a cycle, if one is to change their thinking, not just one issue alone can change. If you change your ideas about one thing, you're bound to change your ideas about another, simply because they are related, one to another.

I would never be able to support a Democrat in a leadership role because most are unable to get past the interests of the select few as it applies to the human factor to make important decisions both militarily and domestically. Abortion is an important issue, but not the swinger.

Even though I don't like Abortion I still am Democrat. They are more for the poor people. Democrats are for health care. Republicans seem like rich people that have insurance and don't care about poor people. Republicans are strongly against any universal healthcare. The lines seem divided between the rich and the poor. Those that have good health care don't care about those that don't. They seem greedy.

well, the abortion issue is a very "casual voter" issue...

and casual voters probably wouldn't come on an internet site to ask questions about politics, since they really don't care about it that much (I mean if they are basing their decision off abortion and all)

so, most on here... wouldn't... but I know several in real life that would probably...

Oh no, there's more to the Democratic Party than just
the abortion issue. I might change to become a Democrat
if they went back to where they were during John
Kennedy's presidency and beyond that time. Please
read Zell Miller's book "A National Party No More" and
you will see where he stands and that's also where I stand.
The Democratic Party left us, we didn't leave it. They have
become so liberal I hardly recognize it now, and are proud
of their immoral stands on some issues.

The democratic party has pushed full left on every issue out there. This country is becoming so politically polarized.

The gap is getting so big it will surely tear this country apart. Just remember, we have all the guns.

Not me.

Taxes, I just compare the rates I paid under Clinton and under Bush and how the Dems want to raise them back up to where they were under Clinton and I say No-Way.

Plus they always seem to under-fund the military (yes I am a veteran)

Unions support Democrats nuff said there

They want Universal Health Care.
