I believe that's pronounced: Why Bakers Dozen't count...

The reason they are both grammatically and numerically er.. ah.. inadequate... is they have soooo much dough... they can basically do what they want... a lot of bread you know... ;)

If you are referring to the Bakers Dozen - it has to with an old tale that says a woman requested a bakers dozen (13 not 12) and the baker gave the woman 12 and she told the baker that is not correct and she told him he needed to add another, the baker would not so then he had a great deal of misfortune, when the woman returned and again requested a bakers dozen, the baker gave her 13 not 12 and all the misfortune ended for him. So they can count, they just have two standards to count to.

I think it had to do with the past. Bakers use to short their clients and then a king got shorted and in retaliation he cut off the bakers hand to make an example out of him. From then on,you will always get 13 in a bakers dozen.(its a safety net so they know they wont lose a hand

that reminds me: i was ringing someone out for bagels, and i asked how many they had. and they said someting to the effect of: "3 in that one, 4 in that one, and 5 in that one" so i said "so, a dozen" and their response was: "no, i think its 12"
so i replied again "a dozen" and they got all huffy and started ranting about it being 12 and not a dozen.
