If your owner's manual does not say, you will be safe with 10w30 motor oil. You can chose regular, semi-synthetic, or full synthetic oils. Now, this is assuming you do not have a diesel engine in your cabrio (pretty rare) In the event you do have a diesel, please stick with 15w40 oil due to the higher compression, heat, and other engine factors that require that grade of oil. Now there are all sorts of other things you can try, some folks will scream at you to use a particular name brand of oil, but that is your choice. If you really wish to keep the vehicle a long time, I would suggest facing the slight added cost of a semi-synthetic oil.
Good luck.

Christina, We've always had exceptional luck with the following:
Havoline, Quaker State, Valvoline, Brad Penn and Gulf. The biggest treat for your motor is 100% synthetic engine oil all brands work well. If you drive over 5,000 miles in four months get it changed at your V.W. dealer or ant new car dealer. Stay away from "fast oil change places". Their history isn't too hot. Too many expensive mistakes do to inattention to the job at hand.

Depends where you live. Your Hand book should tell you but. If all else fails and you dont care about price get a 5W - 50. But if you go to some car parts store or even supermarket like bigW or KMart they will have a chart that will list all makes of car and that will tell you.
