Stay calm.release foot from gas pedal, press brake pedal all the way to floor(since 1967, all cars have a built in reserve where at least two wheels should still have brake pressure being applied even thougth the brake pedal is only 1/2 inch from floor), throw shift into D2 for A/T or down shift to second for M/T. Also go for the emergency brake. Hold car in a straight pattern and if possible glide to the right side of the road. Prepare that you might have to bring the car to a stop by running into a fixed object ( a barrel, side guard rail, a dirt bank, the side of a wall, etc).
For practice, try this at a way lower speed in the remote place of a large shopping mall complex.

turn on your emergency flashers, and shift to a lower gear, if you have a manual shift, or into low if you have an automatic,
try and get over into the emergency lane and use your emergency brake to help you stop. Once you do get it stopped, do not drive it any more until the brakes are repaired, you may have air in the lines or you may have had a line rupture and lost brake fluid.

If you push the brake pedal and it goes to the floor, you may have bad master cylinder. Stay calm and pump the brakes. the leak may get sealed enough for you to stop. Better yet don't drive it, have your car towed and get the problem fixed.

Let off the accellerator straight away, do not switch the engine off, use the transmission to slow you down by putting it in lower gears, ease the emergency brake on (don't just yank it on)
