If you want to buy candles, Yankee candles are good. There is a store locator on their web site....you can find a store near you that carries them. www.yankeecandle.com
Or try a craft mall or a flea market where you can get candles that are home made. Very often they are more likely to be nicely scented.
I make my own candles, though. I can choose what fragrance I want and how strong I want the scent. It's easy to do. I used instructions at http://www.cajuncandles.com/beginnersguide.html
I get my candle wax, wicks, and scent at www.lonestarcandlesupply.com. They have good quality and reasonable pricing. And if you don't know what kind of wax you want, they are very good about helping you. Just tell them what kind of candle you are going to make.
Of course, you can always go to a craft store near you and buy your supplies, but I've found them to be more expensive. Or, there may be a candle supply company near you. I lucked out --- Lone Star Candle is actually in my area, so I can go there and choose the fragrances by smelling their samples.
You can use your empty candle containers, or purchase containers at Walmart or the dollar store. And you can use old pots to melt your wax. You don't need the fancy equipment to get started. I use a candy thermometer to monitor the wax temperature. That part is very importand, because wax is very flamable if you let it get too hot.
I don't buy candles anymore. They are too easy to make, and I love to be able to control the fragrance strength myself! I like mine pretty strong. :) I now make candles for every season...........and for the holidays. And my house smells SO GOOD! :)

Ask around at work or church or a class or anywhere you go where there's a group of people who know each other a bit. See if anyone does -- or knows of someone who does -- PartyLite. Those are the nicest candles! They are available through parties, however, kind of like Tupperware was for so long. Ask around. You'll find someone who knows someone who does PartyLite. The candles are a little more expensive, but they're very nice and have a lovely scent all the way to the bottom of the candle, and they don't produce soot, from what I've been told.

I think that it may be glade, but when I can have candles (I live in university dorms, so they're not really allowed here) I like to get the scented oils candles that melt down completly and burn like an oil lantern. Or you could buy gel candles and also buy some scented oils and add some droplets of the oil around the edges of the oil candle. As the candle burns the oil will sink into the gel and it will go out into the air. It smells great.

here is a site that sells the longest burning candles on the market. These candles burn evenly and cleanly- you will not get big ugly holes with more than half a candles worth of wasted wax- it burns down completely and evenly making it worth every penny. The scents are varied and wonderful and smell just as nice at the end as they do at the beginning-
lots of styles and scents to suit any taste:

after trying buying and researching lots of different types of candles- these are my absolute favorites- no black soot, no wasted wax and they are the longest burning so they are much more cost efficient than all the rest- besides that they are very classy looking- very natural colors and styles that go with any decor.

Yankee candle.
You also might have allergies. For the longest time I couldn't smell candles, but it turned out I had nasal allergies and once I had the right medicine I can smell them just fine. Weird but true.

If you are more careful when you purchase your candles, you shouldn't have anymore problems. If you look on the packaging of the candle it will tell you what it scent is. If none is mentioned, it has no fragrance. Fragrant candles are available everywhere, including the dollar stores. Remember, look at the labels on the packaging.
