Ok, so my school is having a trip to the circus, and I love animals and I have heard rumors that they really badly abuse animals.
The circus is called Ringling Bros. Circus. Is that circus known for abuse. I have mix-feelings. Like, all my friends are going but I love animals and would not go if they have a record of abusement. But at the same time, i know it will be fun with friends.

HELP?!?!?!?!?!?

The whole circus abuse started with a group called PETA, this is the same group the says having pets is equal to slavery and should be illegal, they also say all greyhound owners race their dogs to point of the exhaustion Do you know how long a greyhound race is? it is 30 seconds long, they are allowed to race only twice a week, that means a greyhound can run 1 minute a week by law, If PETA calls that abuse how many pet owners are the abusing their dog by having them run for a few hours a week??? They also say greyhounds are abused because they are crated, but a track greyhound crate is 4' by 4' and more than high enough for the biggest greyhound to stand with its head up, their crates are therefore bigger than any type we the public can buy for even giant breeds like great danes so if crating greyhounds is abuse than pretty much all dog owners with puppies are aslo guilty or abuse for using a crate to help housetrain their pups but even far worse since they use even smaller crates

PETA has a history of making up all sorts of allegations and people erronously believe them because they do not know the true facts.

Go to the circus and pay attention to the animals, if you see an animal that is cowering and trying to hide .then you can believe it is abused other wise it has been recieiving training to do tricks just like many pet dogs recieve that know how to do tricks, or know how to walk nicely at heel and enoy their talent and their desire to do, and pay close attention to the bond between animal and trainer. Your own eyes will tell will tell you where the truth lies and whether the animals are cared for and whether they trust their trainers.

Every win that PETA makes that succeeds in shutting down a circus or shutting down a greyhound track brings them a step closer to taking away our right to have pets sharing our homes

The next time you kill a mosquito or ant that is biting you think of PETA . they also belive that is wrong that even the lowest life forms have a right to life even at your expense.

In europe they have campaigns and websites against americans showing animals in crates , telling the people there that we as americans keep our pets in crate 20 plus hours a day and that is how most of our pets spend their entire lives in little tiny crates, and a lot of people there do believe them,

Here they have websites about how dreadfully they care for animals and this is the other way they attack pet ownership by taking only a tiny smidgeon of truth and blowing it all out of proportion.

This is why I am telling you to use your own eyes to judge and don't believe solely in what you hear. When I got invloved in greyhound adoption I did learn first about what they were saying but when I got around the dogs I knew something did not add up and did my own research and learned the facts and they are no where near what groups like PETA claim them to be

That is a hard one. We just went to the circus about a month ago. That's what my son said, you know they beat these animals to make them do tricks like this.

The elephant seemed happy, but I'm sure it would rather be out in the wild than giving kids rides and doing tricks.

Watching the tigers was neat, but they did not like that whip. One of them, everytime they guy turned his back, the tiger swatted his paw at him.

A couple of the tigers seemed ok with everything. But, a couple of others obviously weren't and didn't mind well.

I don't think the animals are really happy, traveling everyday in cages and just let out for a few minutes to do tricks. But, I don't know if they are physically abused.

The only other animals in this circus were some horses and little monkey you could take your picture with.

If you've never gone, you need to go. You judge for yourself and decide if you ever want to go again. It is lots of fun or the circuses wouldn't still be in business after all these years.

You know, Ringling Bros Circus has been around forever. They are large company having two three ring troupes... I seriously doubt they could afford to have a reputation of abusing animals.

I too love animals... and it does seem an oxymoron to keep wild animals in captivity amid make them do things they don't do in the wild.

And no they do not have to abuse them or be mean to them to get them to their tricks....

But you know, it's going to happen even without the circuses..... I would much rather see an animal working in a circus being challenged to keep it from being bored then in someones private collection being bored and depressed......

PETA is a nortorious group who think that ONLY they are correct when it comes to how animals "should" be treated. In regard to their claims of abuse toward elephants Have you ever touched the skin of an elephant? It is very thick and resilient. I know someone who has had elephant hide boots. These boots have been resoled numerous times the boots look as good as new. Tender skinned I don't think so.

Research elephant behavior. If they are treated "right" they will do anything for you that you ask. mistreat them and the really do, do not forget. They will get even. It is common knowledge in areas of the world that use elephants for labor that mahoots, the handlers who mistreat their elephant, will drop their guard the elephant Will Kill them. That is a known fact. I know there have been elephants in smaller circuses who have gone on rampages but I do not recall hearing of any Ringling Bros Circus elephant causing that kind of damage.

PETA elaborate and ebroider the truth. Do you know tht they habitually KILL animals that they "rescue"? They are two faced and prone to being less than totally honest.

that is NOT a rumor

I havnt been to the circus since i was 5, if the circus has animals, then the animals are definately abusesd. They work for food, and when they make a mistake, they dont get fed, and they are whipped and tased. If you are against the circus, then dont go, dont go just because you want to be with friends. maybe you could get a petition going and get people to sign saying they are going to boycot the circus fieldtrip, becuase the circus is NOT a happy place with fun clown, its a jail with mistreated and very neglected animals

PLEASE dont go just to be with friends, boycott the circus and get people aware of just how bad they are!

Yes the animals at a circus are mostly wild animals and have to be mistreated to fear and obey sorry but animals in a zoo at least have the feeling of security and having its own space not to be intruded upon yep all circus animals are abused some more than others.

Yep. I thought it was just my district, haha. Silly bands or something like that? I don't have one, and I don't really care either. Not going to spend money on a fad. BQ: Skin colored? I don't paint my nails. Don't have the patience or the steadiness. BQ: =( Mine's next week. Still excited though =D

That's a tough spot to be in. Maybe to can raise your concerns during class to get people talking about it. But make sure you do a bit of research first so that you know the details of what you're talking about and don't look silly for not having enough information.

But seriously, bring it up in school to get people interested.
